Elementary First Aid is an element of the STCW training course
Elementary First Aid is a mandatory, minimum requirement for familiarisation, basic safety training and instruction for all seafarers.
Before being assigned to shipboard duties, all persons employed or engaged on a seagoing ship, other than passengers, should receive approved familiarisation training in Elementary First Aid to be able to take immediate action upon encountering an accident or other medical emergency.

Applying immediate first aid in the event of an accident/injury on board ship
Actions on discovering a casualty
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Recovery position
Fractures
Spinal injuries
Examination of a casualty
Medical conditions including heart attack, choking & asthma
Treatment of bleeding, burns & shock
Transporting a casualty on board ship

Delegates or booking companies MUST ensure that one of the below forms of personal identification is available to be presented at course registration:
Passport
Discharge Book (or equivalent National document recording a person's sea service)
National I.D. Card
The above request is enforced by the MCA.

Upon successful completion of the course, candidates are awarded an MCA approved STCW Elementary First Aid (EFA) certificate.
